Mama, the Dove, and the Streetlight

As I lean against my car at night playing the song I put on.

I look up at the sky and see the street light is on.

Brought up so many memories that were scary and a blast.

And the kid side of me that will always last.

When those streetlight came on, you best be walking in the door.

Or when you got home you’ll get the trouble you were asking for.

But it was only to protect you

though you were mad at why.

You had no idea that there were things in this world

that actually make you cry.

So you kept an eye on the sun.

And hit that door with your dome.

Once you even lost track of time.

And race the street light to your home.

Sometimes you made it

Sometimes you didn’t.

Sometimes you shocked yourself

Don’t even know how you did it.

But the lesson is clear. I see it all now

I knew how to get home like a dove

To the mama that wanted the best from me

Even natured me in love.

Mama had no idea though.

Not till tonight.

But I will remember and be thankful for everything.

Mama, the dove, and the streetlight.
